Sam is not the same as when he left, and he begins affecting Tony in frightening ways. Jasper James decides to leave his girlfriend and moves into a very large house with low rent but gradually discovers that his neighbor Troy has a very strange behavior. All adds to the atmosphere. Xtro Sam returns to an awkward…. Step Two: Pick a Number. It even features obscure 80s synth-poppers Tik and Tok! This one manifests the fears of a mother and wife. A fucked up, bizarre and awesome 80s sci-fi cult exploitation film. Tonally the movie changes gears a few time and while I can see it being out of place or bizarre to some, it just works for me.
Alien creatures invade a small town and four teenagers, along with a young boy, attempt to escape from them. It seems like Xtro really predated the new British horror of the late 80's in a very crude and visceral way. Ted V. Mikels bad. Tony on the other hand swears black and blue that he saw his Dad being abducted by aliens. The plot itself is simple: man abducted by aliens returns years later to reunite with his son, but that in no way conveys just how freakin' STRANGE this movie is!

Crappy acting, no budget, and the "special effects" aren't special or actually all that effective, but despite all that I was hooked from the word go, and satisfied when it ended. XTRO is a film that really earns the "holy fucking shit" moniker. Owning a pristine Blu-ray of this today is cool and all, but in the 80s, you could haphazardly choose this off the video store shelf cause the box art was cool -- and fuckin XTRO could happen to you. It got better and better every single minute and got darker. became my mantra. It's kind of like watching "Phantasm" or "Lifeforce" for the first time, and realizing there's something special to all the weirdness on screen. I've heard some things about this British sci-fi thriller, but nothing in the world could prepare me for the utterly messed up ride that Harry Davenport's Xtro truly is, which can best be described as the antithesis of E.T. Likewise, Simon Nash as tony does a great job of playing a kid…. I loved how they managed the story and ended it. I probably don’t need to see this again but I’m glad I checked it out. Harry Bromley Davenport's film is awash with great ideas. Granted the effects work in Xtro is a lot more primitively done than that of Hellraiser but I still found it effectively repellent even though you can see the seams a lot more.….
