Margot would rather be something else versus joining her father. Has there ever been a movie that made you look ugly? Although Joan does not reveal her plan, Danny acts like a gentleman, and she starts to fall for him. Norman Krasna wrote and directed this misguided comedy, one without a single laugh or single engaging character (although Myrna Loy tries). I had a very hard time getting through this book. It is surprising to read a story told from the perspective of those who have lost the war. She let her father, Stefan, Ignatz, Georg, and Celia all make decisions for her. The main character, Margot, is a bit spoiled and uninformed. There are no approved quotes yet for this movie. Any suggestions please. Margot, the protagonist is frustrating with her naïveté attitude/actions and the way so glosses over her lack of remorse at the end is unbelieving. Intense love story that will have you thinking (or like me, worrying about how they fare in WWII) long after you've finished it. Al O'Connor all gave outstanding supporting roles. The entire cast are expert comedians excepting Forsythe but his role is really that of the straight man anyway.

This is a very fine script indeed by veteran writer-director Norman Krasna. I really enjoyed this book!

External Reviews Frothy bit of fluff but with a great deal of charm. [ While I was surprised that the story about her daughter was invented, I was not at all surprised to find out that she was a spy, it was not well disguised through the book.

The print is sadly faded and filthy--scratched, blotched, lined. Her sidekick? And every now and then you get to see Paris. Fiske's daughter, Joan (Olivia de Havilland), tries to prove that Cartwright is wrong about the soldiers by going on a date with one named Danny (John Forsythe). She did not break off her and Stefan's engagement, but she continued to pursue a relationship with Georg.

The color is lovely as well, adding to the gemlike quality of this underrated and very intelligent comedy. The story takes place in Paris in 1919 when the treaty to end WWI is being hammered out. This was a very entertaining film from 1956 with some great veteran actors who have had great roles in their careers and this is a rather silly film which seems to go on and on.

The setting is postwar Paris, and the sets are beautiful to behold. Forsythe's chatty buddy, who sounds like he's auditioning for a cartoon voice-over job, gets chummy with a senator and his wife while Forsythe has a confrontation with every person he talks to (he's far too intense and focused an actor to relax and be easy, and these fluffball surroundings have him looking like a deer in the headlights).

Ugh... just wanted to shake her like TELL THE TRUTH!!!! As Margot navigates the post-war city of Paris and Versailles, she meets members of the underground and finds her own path.

A fascinating life story of a truly amazing woman, an absolute must read! She has a close relationship with her father, but they have so many lies between them.
